September 16 – Justin Fields ran for 117 yards and Darnell Washington caught the game’s only touchdown as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Denver Broncos 13–6 on Sunday.

Chris Boswell added two more goals for Pittsburgh (2-0), giving him a total of eight in the first two games of the season.

Quarterback Russell Wilson returned to Denver without much fanfare, where he spent two forgettable seasons before signing with the Steelers. Wilson did not play for the second consecutive week due to a calf injury.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix went 20-of-35 passing for 246 yards and two interceptions in the Broncos’ (0-2) first home game. Wil Lutz had two field goals for Denver.

Pittsburgh’s stingy defense kept the Knicks at bay all day and forced them into mistakes. The Broncos went three-and-out on their first two possessions and did not cross the 50-yard line until late in the second quarter.

The Steelers were strong offensively and won their second consecutive road game to start the season. On the second possession, Fields completed 78 yards on 12 carries, taking 7 minutes and 34 seconds and completing two third-down conversions.

Fields finished the drive with a 13-of-20 pass, and Washington scored from 5 yards out to make the score 7–0 with 1:56 remaining in the first quarter. It was Pittsburgh’s first touchdown of the season.

Boswell kicked a 22-yard field goal on the final play of the second quarter to give the Steelers a 10–0 lead at halftime. His 53-yard field goal in the third quarter gave Pittsburgh a 13–0 lead.

Denver finally got going on its second possession of the third quarter, from its own 15 to the Steelers’ six, but Nix’s pass for Courtland Sutton was blocked by Corey Jr. Cory Trice Jr. blocked the end zone.

The Broncos took the lead in the fourth quarter and avoided elimination at home. Nix hit Josh Reynolds on fourth and six from the Pittsburgh 42ers, and Lutz hit a 35-yard field goal four plays later.

With 1 minute and 54 seconds left in the game, Lutz hit a 29-yard shot, trailing 13-6, the Golden Nuggets had one last chance to score with one second left in the game, but Knicks threw a desperation pass. The ball was intercepted by Knicks.
