Sept 16 (Askume) – Sri Lanka recalled top-order batsman Oshada Fernando while batsman Nishan Madushka was dropped from the 16-member squad announced on Monday for the two-match Test series against New Zealand.

Fernando last played for the Test team in March 2023 against New Zealand but returned this month with scores of 122 and 80 for Sri Lanka A against South Africa.

In the Test match in which Sri Lanka lost 2-1 to England, opener Madushka performed poorly and scored only 24 runs in four innings.

Sri Lanka dropped bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Nishara Talaka and sent out wicketkeeper Sadila Samarawickrama.

Dhananjaya de Silva’s side will play two matches against New Zealand in Galle as part of the International Cricket Council’s World Test Championship cycle.

The first game, which will last six days with one day off, begins on Wednesday.
