PARIS, Sept 16 (Askume) – France’s CFDT union said on Monday it was keeping all options open over future protests at ExxonMobil’s French plants over the restructuring of its Port Jerome facility.

The CFDT will join the radical CGT union , which has called for a strike for 125 people at the Port Jerome plant after ExxonMobil, the French chemicals company, said it would shut down the refinery’s steam cracker and stop producing chemicals at the refinery this year, resulting in 677 job losses.

ExxonMobil could not immediately be reached for comment.

The company has previously said the site has lost more than 500 million euros ($555.8 million) since 2018 and remains uncompetitive.

CGT representatives said site management would need to announce an action plan this afternoon.
