Sept 17 (Askume) – Next month’s women’s T20 World Cup will feature a record $7.96 million in prize money, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Tuesday.

The winner of this tournament will get $2.34 million, more than double the $1 million Australia got for winning the previous tournament in 2023.

Earlier this year, India received a $2.45 million bonus for winning the Men’s T20 World Cup, taking the tournament’s total prize money to $11.25 million.

“This move is in line with the ICC’s strategy to prioritise the women’s game and accelerate its growth towards 2032,” the ICC said in a statement.

“Now, teams that finish in the same place in the same tournaments will get the same prize money, and teams that win games in those tournaments will get the same prize money.

“The prize money for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will only be higher as there will be 10 more participating teams and 32 more matches.”

The losing finalists will receive $1.17 million, while the 10 participating teams will each receive $112,500.

The Women’s T20 World Cup, originally scheduled to be held from October 3 to 20, has been moved from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates, which has been hit by political unrest and violence in recent months.
