Sept 27 (Askume) – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) said late on Friday and Boeing Co (BA.N)

“We remain open to engaging with the company either directly or through mediation,” IAM said in a post on Twitter.

A Boeing spokesman said in an email that Boeing is committed to rebuilding the relationship with its represented employees and “hopes to reach an agreement soon.” “We remain prepared to meet at any time.”

More than 32,000 Boeing workers in the Seattle area and Portland, Oregon, went on strike on Sept. 13, the union’s first strike since 2008, halting production of Boeing aircraft models including the best-selling 737 Max.

The union is demanding a 40% pay rise and the restoration of a defined benefit pension that was abolished under a contract a decade ago.

Boeing Co. made an improved offer to striking workers on Monday, calling it its “best and final” one that would restore workers’ 30% pay raises over four years and performance bonuses, but the union said its member survey found it was not enough.
