Sept 12 (Askume) – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is North America’s largest aerospace union and represents workers at Boeing Co’s (BA.N) U.S. West Coast plants.
According to IAM documents, IAM workers have gone on strike seven times since the Boeing division was founded in the 1930s.
1948
The workers went on the longest strike of 140 days over seniority and store closures.
1965
The 19-day strike resulted in improvements to seniority rules, appeals procedures, and health insurance for dependents.
1977
The 45-day strike ended with pension reform and retiree health insurance.
1989
The 48-day strike resulted in changes to overtime conditions.
1995
The 69-day strike ended with changes to pensions, job security and redundancy benefits.
2005
The 28-day strike protects health benefits and retiree health benefits and increases pension benefits and seniority rights.
2008
The workers’ strike lasted 57 days . The union said progress had been made on health care and pension issues.
