Oct 10 (Askume) – More than 3 million homes and businesses were without power on Thursday after Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida overnight, destroying homes and killing at least 10 people, according to Poweroutage.us.

    The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that Milton was approaching Siesta Key with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h) at about 8:30 a.m. ET (0030 GMT) on Wednesday. Milton entered the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday.

    The National Hurricane Center said Milton became a posttropical cyclone Thursday afternoon and is expected to slowly weaken over the next few days.

    The most impacted customers include Florida Power & Light, which has 989,230 customers without power, followed by Duke Energy, which has 926,387 customers without power.

    Meanwhile, more than 93,000 customers in Georgia and North Carolina are still without power in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which killed more than 200 people in six states , the most deaths in the continental United States since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The storm was the deadliest hurricane on record, killing about 10,000 people.
