NEW YORK, Sept 10 (Askume) – Data released by the U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday showed that about one in seven Americans has signed up for health insurance through the marketplace since the Affordable Care Act was enacted in 2014.

    A total of 49.4 million Americans are enrolled in the plans, commonly known as Obamacare, and that number will reach 20.8 million by 2024, the agency said.

    Insurance plans run by companies including CVS Health’s Aetna (CVS.N) and UnitedHealth Group (UNH.N) offer income-based subsidies on the federally operated Healthcare.gov website or directly through states.

    Since 2014, marketplace coverage has been higher in states that did not expand Medicaid under the ACA or delayed expanding Medicaid, the report said.

    For example, Florida, Utah and Georgia are among the top states with resident enrollment rates as a percentage of population, with an average of 20 percent of residents enrolled, while states that have expanded Medicaid coverage average 12 percent. The data cited in the press release was collected by the IRS from tax forms and other sources.

    The average annual premium for an enrollee in a marketplace health plan has fallen by $800 during the four years of the Biden administration, a senior administration official said.

    “Marketplace enrollment has increased under the (Biden) administration, particularly in helping American families pay their monthly bills and entrepreneurs start new businesses,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement on Tuesday.
