Sept 22 (Askume) – Shell (SHEL.L) said on Sunday it would suspend production at its Stones and Appomattox plants in the Gulf of Mexico as a precaution against a tropical disturbance.

The oil company also said, “We are safely pausing some drilling operations and there will be no other impact to production in the Gulf of Mexico.” The company also said it has begun evacuating non-essential employees from properties located in the Mars corridor.

The US National Hurricane Center said the storm near the Gulf of Mexico had a 50% chance of becoming a cyclone within the next 48 hours.

“Environmental conditions appear favorable for this disturbance to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next few days,” Miami forecasters said.
