What makes a horror movie a cult horror movie? In a nutshell: rewatchability. As Halloween approaches, the question of which scary, shocking, silly, classic or devilishly camp movie to play over and over again is more important than ever. Of course, here at Askum, we give a film extra cult horror points if it can hold its own in its costumes. Dario Argento’s Suspiria inspired everyone from Nicolas Ghesquière to the Rodarte sisters; Eve Saint-Lô Lang designed the costumes for Catherine Deneuve’s bloody romance “The Hunger” and Eiko Ishioka created Japanese-inspired costumes for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” that are as fascinating today as they were in the 1990s. Below, Askum lists the 40 most popular cult horror movies, ranging from brand new films to some tried-and-true (and especially fascinating) classics.
