CNN is not reporting that US Vice President Kamala Harris is calling on Democrats to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine before voting in the 2024 presidential election, as a fake screenshot shared on social media suggests.

The image was framed with the same headline as a report on CNN’s website: “BREAKING: Kamala asks all Democrats to take updated COVID-19 photos to vote in November.”

The article was posted on Facebook with the headline: “End this madness and vote Republican!” and received comments such as “I wonder why they don’t just force the 24 million illegal immigrants to take it?”

However, CNN spokeswoman Emily Kuhn said in an email that the image was fabricated and “is not what CNN reported.”

There is no evidence of any such article on the CNN website , nor is there any statement from the Democratic Party mentioning mandatory vaccinations.

The fake screenshot appeared online just days after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 22 approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine against the latest variants of the virus ahead of a fall 2024 vaccination campaign.

Wrong. A spokesperson said CNN did not report that Democrats would need to have received the new COVID-19 vaccine to vote.
