TORONTO, Sept 8 (Askume) – Fans waited for hours outside the Toronto premiere of the film “Harbin” on Sunday, hoping to see South Korean stars Lee Dong-wook and HyunA work together for the first time in history. Genre.

Their patience paid off when the two actors appeared on the red carpet, their identities linked to the growing popularity of Korean culture around the world.

“This is my first time here and I’m happy to see my fans here,” Lee said. It was also the first film screening at TIFF for the actor, who is perhaps best known for his hit TV series My Girl.

“Harbin” tells the story of a small but courageous resistance force fighting to liberate Korea from Japan’s oppressive rule in the early 20th century. This struggle brought the freedom fighters to the city of Harbin in China’s cold northeastern region, where they carried out a plan to assassinate Japan’s first prime minister.

“Harbin” is directed by Oh Min-ho, whose films also include “The Man Standing Next,” South Korea’s contender for best international feature at the 2021 Academy Awards.

Outside the Toronto screening, a 26-year-old fan named Angela said she grew up watching Korean dramas and was influenced by Korean films, K-pop music and Korean culture. For her, seeing the actors at TIFF made her realize how far-reaching these cultural influences are.

“I’m especially excited to see them both step off the screen and into a live event in Toronto. Art is truly limitless and breaks down barriers and creates connections between people, no matter where they come from,” he added.
