LONDON, Sept 13 (Askume) – Irish designer Paul Costello took fashionistas to dreamy Paris on Friday to debut his spring collection.

The 79-year-old brand primarily uses four light colors – blue, pink, yellow and green – in its new bridal collection. The line is called “Le Ciel Est Bleu” (The sky is blue).

With Parisian boulevards and French songs as the backdrop, the designer opened the show with an all-blue look.

The models wore linen or plaid dresses, tweed dresses and jackets, and playful jacquard outfits. Some designs are also decorated with floral patterns and fringes.

Costello described the line as “very youthful”.

He told Askume, “London… was the fashion capital in the late Sixties and early Seventies, and Paris was the haute couture capital, and I grew up in that haute couture environment. That’s all about me.”

“This collection reflects that period.”

Turkish-born designer Bora Aksu calls her mother her “biggest inspiration” and pays tribute to her with a new collection of intricately embroidered layered feminine looks.

The models wore tailored jackets, some with puffs or patterns on the shoulders and sleeves, as well as lace and draped dresses. Some designs are decorated with flowers.

Aksu uses white, light pink, yellow, and blue, as well as bright red and dark blue.

London is the second stop on a month-long spring/summer 2025 fashion show calendar, which begins in New York and will also include fashion capitals Milan and Paris.

London Fashion Week, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, officially kicked off on Thursday night with singer Charli XCX launching a new collection for high street retailer H&M at a show and party.

The campaign will run until September 17 and features brands such as Burberry, Erdem and Simone Rocha.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) was founded in 1983 and the first London Fashion Week was held in 1984.

Over the past few decades, big names including the late Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood have surprised fashionistas with their creative visions at London Fashion Week.

It is “known for its entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and freedom of expression,” BFC Chief Executive Caroline Rush told Askume on Thursday.

“These are the icons of British fashion and that’s what you’ll see over the next five days at London Fashion Week.”
