Sept 11 (Askume) – Pop star Taylor Swift won seven trophies at the MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, tying her with Beyonce for the top spot in the video category, the most lifetime honors in its 40-year history.

Swift won the top prize for video of the year for her moody black-and-white video for “Fortnite” with Post Malone.

It features Swift in a mental hospital, which she says reflects what was going on inside her while writing the music for her album “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“When you watch this video, it’s sad, but it’s actually the funniest video ever,” Swift said while accepting the Moon Man statuette at the VMAs.

After each take, she would hear someone in the studio cheering. “That guy is my boyfriend, Travis,” she said, referring to Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce.

He said, “Everything this person touches turns into joy, entertainment and magic.” I would like to thank them for including me in this shoot.

Swift thanked fans for voting for the VMA honor and urged them to vote in the upcoming US presidential election. The singer posted support for Democrat Kamala Harris on Instagram on Tuesday but did not name the candidate on Wednesday.

By the end of the night, Swift, 34, brought her total career VMA points to 30, tying her with hip-hop star Beyoncé. Other awards won by Swift on Wednesday include artist of the year and song of the summer.

Following 2022’s “All’s Well” and 2023’s extended version of “Anti-Hero”, he won his third consecutive Video of the Year award and fifth win, a record for an artist.

At the beginning of the show, when “Fortress Heroes” won the award for best collaboration, Swift praised Malone, saying “he’s so talented” and “incredibly humble.”

“It took me a long time to get him to stop calling me ma’am,” she said, standing next to Malone on stage at the UBS Arena outside New York City.

Malone praised Swift, calling her “one of the kindest, most talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.”

He said he watched a “Fortnite” video directed by Swift on set while she was strapped to the operating table. “It’s awesome,” he said.

The VMAs began airing on MTV (par.io) in 1984 and are known for memorable moments, like Madonna and Britney Spears kissing on stage and Lady Gaga wearing raw meat as a red carpet dress.

“Good Luck, Babe” singer Chapel Roan was named best new artist at Wednesday’s ceremony. Wearing a metallic costume and headpiece, he dedicated the award to “all the drag artists who inspire me” and to his fans in the gay community.

“I look at all the gay kids in the Midwest now and I understand them because I am one of you,” she said. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be who you want to be, bitch!”

Blackpink singer Lisa won the award for best K-pop video for her hit single “Rockstar.” South African artist Tyla won the Afrobeat award for “Water” and Brazilian singer Anitta won the best Latin music video award for “Mil Veces.”

Rapper Eminem opened the show with “Houdini” from his album “The Death of Slim Shady” and was later joined by country singer Jelly Roll via video to perform their hit “Somebody Save Me.”

Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award winner Katy Perry wore giant silver butterfly wings and performed hits ranging from “Teenage Dream” to “Firework” in a futuristic set. Her husband, actor Orlando Bloom, handed her the trophy and she gave him a hug and a long kiss.

“Thank you to MTV for believing in my queer identity from day one,” Perry said.
