Askume, Sept 12 – Italy’s competition regulator has launched an in-depth investigation under Italian merger control rules to assess Swisscom’s (SCMN.S) acquisition of Vodafone Italia, Swisscom said on Thursday.

    Swisscom said such second-stage reviews are “not unusual in the telecoms sector” and that it “believes the deal is pro-competitive”.

    “We will continue to work closely and constructively with the Italian competition authorities to ensure timely approval,” Swisscom said in a statement.

    According to Swisscom, following the announcement of the acquisition of Vodafone Italia on March 15, Swisscom has secured 8 billion euros ($8.82 billion) in financing for the acquisition amount, which will expire in May 2024, and the transaction is expected to be completed next year Season 1 is completed.
