KIEV, Sept 20 (Askume) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday she had arrived in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to discuss issues such as support for Europe, winter preparations, defence and progress on G7 debt.

Von der Leyen said on the X social network: “My eighth visit to Kyiv comes at a time when the heating season is about to start, and Russia is focusing on the development of energy infrastructure.”

Von der Leyen said on Thursday that 160 million euros had been recovered from seized Russian assets.Will be used to meet urgent humanitarian needs in Ukraine this winter .

Russia destroyed about 9 gigawatts (GW) of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which von der Leyen said was “equivalent to the energy of the three Baltic countries combined.”

He also said the EU aims to restore 2.5 GW of power generation capacity and will increase exports to supply 2 GW of electricity to Ukraine.

Von der Leyen will meet Ukrainian President Zelensky and other officials.
