MOSCOW, Sept 21 (Askume) – Russia temporarily closed the M-9 highway near the town of Toropets in western Tver Oblast on Saturday to ensure traffic safety, Russian news agencies quoted a branch of the Federal Highway Administration as saying.

Three days earlier, a massive Ukrainian drone strike caused a huge explosion at a major weapons depot near Toropets, forcing the town’s residents to evacuate the city, according to war bloggers and some media reports.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday it had shot down 101 Ukrainian drones overnight, including three in the Tver region.

Road agencies said the motorway near Toropets was closed at 6:40 a.m. local time (0840 GMT) on Saturday. They did not give further details about the reason for the closure.
