KIEV, Sept 16 (Askume) – Russia carried out its eighth nighttime airstrike on Kiev in September, with air defence forces destroying about 20 drones flying over the country’s capital, the Ukrainian military said on Monday.

“Russian attack drones are heading towards Kiev from different directions and in separate groups,” Serhiy Popko, head of the Kiev military administration, said in a cable.

“According to preliminary information, there were no casualties or property damage in Kiev.”

The scale of the attack, which put Kiev on air raid alert for about 3.5 hours, will only be known on Monday, he said on a messaging app.

Askume witnesses reported a series of loud explosions that sounded like an operating air defence system.

There was no immediate comment from Moscow. Russia says its air strikes are targeting Ukrainian infrastructure vital to its war effort.
