KIEV (Askume) – The Ukrainian air force said on Monday it had shot down six of eight drones and two of three missiles launched by Russia in night-time attacks on four regions of Ukraine.

Kiev authorities said it was the fifth attack in September and caused no damage or casualties in the capital.

Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Ukraine in recent weeks, highlighting Kiev’s urgent need for air defences and long-range strike capabilities to thwart attacks on its Western allies.

An air defence system hit an aerial target in the Kiev region and its debris caused two fires in open areas, which have been extinguished, regional authorities said on Monday.

Serhiy Lysak, the governor of the central Dnepropetrovsk region, said air defence systems there shot down two missiles and a surveillance drone.

Three people were wounded and a 16-year-old girl was killed in Russian shelling in the regional town of Nikopol, Lisak said.

The governor of the central Cherkasy region said air defence forces destroyed one of the drones and the debris caught fire, which has been extinguished.

The Energy Ministry said Russian forces also attacked energy facilities in seven regions within 24 hours. The statement did not detail the extent of damage to the facilities.
