KIEV, Sept 8 (Askume) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday appointed former arms production minister Alexander Kamyshin as an external adviser on strategic issues, an order posted on the Ukrainian presidency’s website said.

Kamyshin, who was minister of strategic industries and in charge of arms production, resigned last week as part of a reshuffle of Ukraine’s government at a crucial juncture in its war with Russia.

Zelensky said Ukraine needed “new energy” and ordered the biggest government reshuffle since the Russian invasion began in February 2022 .

Ukraine’s parliament last week voted to appoint nine new ministers, including the foreign minister and two deputy prime ministers.

On Sunday, Zelensky took further steps to reorganize his team and issued a number of orders regarding new appointments to his office.

“I will continue to work for our defense industry,” Kamyshin said on the Telegram messaging app shortly after his appointment.

He will also focus on other strategically important areas, he said, without elaborating.

Kamyshin oversaw a significant increase in Ukraine’s domestic arms production during the war and promoted efforts to bring more Western money, experience, and technology into Ukraine’s arms production industry.

Zelensky also appointed Viktor Mykyta, the governor of western Transcarpathia, as the new deputy director of his office overseeing the region.

Mikita said one of his main tasks is to ensure the effective functioning of the region’s military administration and to develop communication and trust between authorities, local communities and businesses.
