KIEV, Sept 21 (Askume) – President Zelenskyy said he hopes to meet Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump next week, when he will call on the United States to come up with a “victory plan” for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Zelensky will attend meetings of the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly and is scheduled to meet US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, respectively, on September 26.

The Ukrainian leader said he also hoped to meet Trump.

“I think our meeting will probably take place on September 26-27,” Zelensky told the media late Friday night. However, he did not give any details about the matter.

Trump will face Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the US elections on November 5.

Zelensky said in August that he wanted to brief Biden, Harris and Trump on his plan. Although Trump and Zelensky spoke by phone in July, they have not met in person since Trump’s 2017-2021 term.

Zelensky described the plan as a blueprint to force Russia to diplomatically end the war and said it depended on quick decisions by key allies between October and December this year.

At this critical juncture of the war, Zelensky hopes to bolster Ukraine with more weapons and military, economic and diplomatic support from Kiev’s main ally, the United States. He is also expected to press Washington to lift a ban on long-range missile strikes at Russia.

Despite Kiev’s sudden incursion into Russia’s Kursk region last month, Russian troops have been slowly but steadily advancing in eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky has repeatedly said there is no alternative to a “just peace” and has dismissed the possibility of a cease-fire, saying it would only delay Russia’s aggression.
