Askume, Sept 10 – Republican Representative Joe Wilson, the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, collapsed during an event on Tuesday and was taken to hospital, his office said.

Wilson’s son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, wrote in his X profile that “doctors have confirmed to us that he experienced stroke-like symptoms.”
“I was able to speak to him a short while ago and I am very grateful that his condition is stable and he is being monitored by medical professionals,” he added.
Wilson fell ill while attending a Ukrainian Independence Day celebration in the front row at Ukraine House in Washington’s diplomatic enclave. As the Ukrainian ambassador began speaking, he stopped and asked for a doctor.
Wilson has represented a conservative district in South Carolina since 2001. He became famous in the United States for shouting “You lied!” to President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress in 2009.
