MOSCOW, Sept 16 (Askume) – The Kremlin said on Monday that the gunman who killed former U.S. President Donald Trump had links to Ukrainians, showing that “playing with fire” has consequences.

Asked about what the FBI called an apparent assassination attempt on Trump , Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:

“It is not us who should be thinking, but the US intelligence community. However, playing with fire has consequences.”

The comment apparently referred to US support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

CNN, Fox News and The New York Times, citing unnamed law enforcement officials, identified the suspect as 58-year-old Hawaiian Ryan Wesley Routh.

Three social media accounts bearing Rouse’s name indicate he is a strong supporter of Ukraine’s war against Russia.

According to the New York Times, it interviewed Rouse in 2023 and wrote an article about Americans volunteering to help in the war in Ukraine.

Rouse told the Times that he traveled to Ukraine in 2022 and stayed there for several months trying to recruit Afghan soldiers who had fled the Taliban to fight in Ukraine.
