MOSCOW, Sept 11 (Askume) – The Kremlin said on Wednesday it did not like the mention of Vladimir Putin’s name during the U.S. presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and urged the two candidates to stop dragging him into political battles.

The White House said Putin’s remarks came after Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he preferred Harris to Trump, following comments made a week ago by Putin. We should stop commenting on the November 5 elections .

Peskov told reporters that the Kremlin did not directly monitor Tuesday night’s debate but did monitor its coverage.

“Certainly, we see both candidates referring to our president and our country in a negative way,” he said. “Of course, the situation is quite clear — the entire United States, regardless of the political party of the candidate, has a negative, negative view of our point of view.”

“Putin’s name is being used as a tool for domestic political conflict in the United States. We really don’t like that and we want them to retain our president’s name.”

During the debate, there was a heated exchange between Trump and Harris over Putin and the war in Ukraine .

Harris told Trump that if Trump were president, Putin would “eat your lunch” and the Russian leader would “be sitting in Kiev right now.”

Trump said it was in the best interest of the United States to “end this war”, though he did not say whether he wanted Ukraine to win.

He reiterated that if elected, he would resolve the dispute before taking office. He did not explain how he would do so. He also criticized US President Joe Biden for not calling Putin in the past two years.

Responding to a question, Peskov said a phone call would not end the conflict. He said the United States “needs to abandon the policy of using Ukraine as disposable material to suppress everything related to the Russian Federation.”
