Sept 12 (Askume) – More than 340,000 homes and businesses in Louisiana were without power after Hurricane Francine hit the Louisiana Gulf Coast on Thursday, according to PowerOutage.US.

    Hurricane Francine weakened to a tropical storm early in the day and later brought heavy rain and strong winds to southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi and Alabama.

    Among the hardest-hit customers was Entergy (ETR.N) , which had 260,900 customers without power.

    “We have begun restoring service to customers when it is safe to do so and are assessing the damage Francine has caused to our system,” Entergy said in a news release Thursday.

    Following at No. 2 was Dixie Electric Membership Corporation, which had 30,723 customers cut off statewide.
