WASHINGTON, Sept 19 (Askume) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Thursday the Federal Reserve’s decision to cut interest rates by half a percentage point was “a political move.”
“It’s really a political move,” Trump said in an interview with Newsmax. “Most people think it’s going to be half that number, and that’s probably right.”

Trump said last month that the president should have a say in the Fed’s decisions.
The chairman and the other six members of the Board of Governors are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. The Fed enjoys substantial operational independence and can make policy decisions that have a major impact on the direction of the world’s largest economy and global asset markets.
