When and where will the debate take place?
The 90-minute debate, hosted by CBS News, will take place on October 1 at 9 p.m. ET (0100 GMT on October 2) in New York City, New York, a Democratic Party stronghold and former home of Donald Trump.

What to expect from a waltz
Walz, the Minnesota governor, is likely to use his reputation as an “everyman” to appeal to voters , including some independents who think Harris, a former California senator, is too liberal.
Walz, 60, is a former congressman who won election in the Republican-leaning district before becoming governor.
As governor, he pushed a progressive agenda that included free school meals, tax cuts for the middle class, and expanded paid leave for Minnesota workers.
Walz may try to anger Vance, as Harris did successfully in a debate with Trump. Waltz questioned Vance’s Midwestern credentials and mocked his 2016 memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” for its portrayal of rural America.
“Like all the normal people I grew up with in the heartland,” Walz said at his first rally as Harris’ vice presidential running mate, “J.D. attended Yale University and had his career supported by Silicon Valley billionaires. Got funded by a millionaire and then wrote the best-selling book that denigrated the community, “Come on! Middle America isn’t like that.”
Walz, who is also a former high school teacher and football coach, described Trump and Vance as “creepy and, yes, weird” — a criticism widely shared among Democrats.
The Democratic vice presidential nominee linked Vance to a conservative policy proposal called Plan 2025 , from which Trump has tried to distance himself.

He also claimed, without evidence, that the suspect in the latest assassination attempt on Trump was using inflammatory language from the Democratic Party.
“The big difference between conservatives and liberals is … nobody has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last few months, whereas two people have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last few months, ” Vance said in a statement.
During the campaign, Vance characterized Walz and Harris as radical liberals.
He also questioned details of Walz’s military record and family fertility issues.
Vance, who served in the Marines and served in Iraq for six months as a public affairs officer, accused Walz of quitting the Army National Guard to avoid deployment to Iraq and falsely claiming he was done fighting.
Walz served in the National Guard for 24 years and retired to run for Congress. He has defended his record, but the Harris campaign acknowledged he spoke erroneously in a 2018 video in which he mentioned “weapons of war that I brought into combat.” Walz has never served in a combat zone.
