September 21 – Team Europe and Team World played to a 2-2 draw on day two of the Laver Cup in Berlin on Friday.

In the World Team, Argentina’s Francesco Cerundolo defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4. Cerundolo, ranked 31st in the world, won, hitting 16 winners in 97 minutes to improve his all-time record against No. 9 Ruud to 4-3.

Europe’s Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece equalised the score by defeating Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-1, 6-4 in 81 minutes.

The European team’s Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria then defeated Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2). But the American pair tied with the World Team in doubles, as Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton defeated Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Alexander of Germany 7-6 (5), 6-4. Fritz and Shelton combined to hit 8 aces, save 4 of 5 break points and seize the opportunity to break Alcaraz and Zverev.

Hangzhou Open

Chinese player Buyun Chaote defeated second seed Karen Khachanov 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the ATP Tour quarterfinals for the first time.

Local player Yunchao Ket converted 3 of 5 break points, hitting 34 winners and 13 aces. Russian player Khachanov hit 18 aces and 35 winning points but also made unforced errors at 38-33.

Fourth seed Brandon Nakashima saved two match points to beat Hong Kong qualifier Chak Lam Coleman Wong 6-7 (7), 7-6 (4), 6-1. In the quarterfinals, Nakajima will face Hijikata Rinki of Australia, who advanced after Hungary’s Fabian Marozsán withdrew due to illness.

Mikhail Kukushkin beat fellow Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko 6-7, 7-6(3).

Chengdu Open

German player Yannick Hanfmann defeated seventh seed Giovanni Mpetsi Pericad 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the second round of the China Open.

France’s Mpetchie Péricard won more service points (22-8) and winners (32-26), but also made more unforced errors (27-16). Hanfmann converted 2 of 6 break point opportunities.

Third seed Nicolas Jarry of Chile defeated Slovakia’s Lukas Klein 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4, and fourth seed Pedro Martinez Botero of Spain defeated Australian Alexander Vucic 6-3, 6-6. Russian qualifier Kakhmazov defeated Japanese player Daniel Taro 7-6(1), 6-1.
