SYDNEY, Sept 10 (Askume) – Australia will launch its biggest talent search next month to find local athletes for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics, the Australian Institute of Sport said on Tuesday.

The AIS has launched the Future Green and Gold program with its state counterparts and over 40 sports and Paralympics Australia to identify talent and develop athletes to perform at their best.

“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for someone to represent Australia on the world stage,” Annette Eastwood of the AIS said.

“We’re looking for a variety of skills so I encourage any eligible Australian with an Olympic or Paralympic dream to give it a try.”

Australian athletes aged 13 to 23 will be selected for the 2032 Olympic team, while Australian athletes aged 13 and over will be selected for Paralympic events.

No prior sporting experience is required and athletes wishing to transition from non-Olympic or Paralympic sports are encouraged to apply.

When Australia first hosted the Olympics in Melbourne in 1956, it finished third on the medal list with 13 gold medals. When Sydney hosted the Olympics in 2000, it finished fourth with 16 gold medals.

It follows the most successful Summer Olympics ever, held in Paris in July and August, with Australian athletes winning 18 gold medals and 53 medals in total.

The Australian Olympic Committee welcomes the launch of the Future Green Gold campaign.

“The success of the home team is crucial to the success of any home game,” AOC CEO Matt Carroll said in a release.

“Many Olympians begin their athletic journey in various sports before finding and excelling in their Olympic passion.

“Encouraged by our team’s success in Paris, many young Australians will be inspired to compete at the Games and fulfil their dreams for the Brisbane Games.”
