Sept. 17 – Andrew Benintendi hit two home runs and drove in four runs to help the Chicago White Sox advance in a three-game series Monday in Anaheim, Calif. The first game of the series was an 8-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Andrew Vaughn had a homer and a triple and Lenin Sosa had two hits, including a home run, all of which gave the White Sox (36-115) their first win since June 27, their first three-game winning streak since June 29.

Chicago right-hander Jonathan Cannon (4-10) allowed four runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and struck out two.

Angels left-hander Reid Detmers (4-7), making his third start since being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake City, allowed seven runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking three.

Eric Waagman hit his first major league home run, Charles LeBlanc homered and scored twice for the Angels (60-90), the Angels have lost six in a row.

Luis Robert Jr. struck out eight pitches with one out in the first inning before Benintendi hit an 0-2 slider deep to right for a 2-0 lead.

Vaughn then hit Detmers’ second pitch over the left fence to make the score 3–0.

The Angels gave up three more runs in the second period.

After loading the bases and an infield single, Angels first baseman Nolan Schnoor scored on a throwing error on Roberts’s infield single, increasing the lead to 4–0.

Benintendi doubled and scored, and Vaughn’s triple to right scored Benintendi, making the score 6–0.

Wagman drove the ball to the center field fence with one out in the bottom of the second inning, making the score 6–1. His first four major league hits included three doubles and a home run.

Sosa hit a home run in the third inning to increase the lead to 7–1.

James hit a solo home run to left-center field with one out in the fifth inning, increasing the lead to 7–2, but Benintendi hit another home run in the seventh inning, increasing the lead to 8–2.

Jordan Adams hit an RBI single to shallow in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gustavo Campello gave up his first major league hit in Game 2, driving in a second run to make the score 8–4.
