September 14 – Brady Basso hit his first career home run in the sixth inning and the visiting Oakland Athletics won 2–0 over the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

Chicago (33-115) lost its 16th consecutive home game, a franchise record, and suffered its 18th defeat in its last 20 games.

The White Sox must finish 10–4 or better to avoid tying the 1962 New York Mets for the most single-season losses (120) in modern baseball history.

Lawrence Butler drove in a run in the fifth inning to extend his career-best hitting streak to 21 games for Oakland (65-83), which has won three of its last four games.

Basso (1-0) allowed five hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings, walked one and struck out two. Michel Otanez and Tyler Ferguson followed, and then closer Mason Miller completed his run with a single in the ninth for his 25th save.

Chicago was limited to six singles games and was shut out for the 18th time.

J.J. Blades and Jake Glover had two hits each for the Athletics, who won their sixth consecutive series.

Chicago starter Garrett Crotchet (6-12) struck out 11 of his first 12 batters before Dez Cameron’s two-out single to give the Athletics a 1-0 lead. Grove then singled with a double.

Oakland scored another run in the fifth inning off Gus Wallander. With two outs on the corners, Tyler Nevin scored from third on Brent Rooker’s single to right field.

Crockett threw 56 pitches over four innings, allowing one run on three hits, no walks, and four strikeouts, managing his workload in his first season as a White Sox starter.

In the sixth inning, Otanez replaced Basso with two on base and one out. Otanes struck out Andrew Vaughn before Lenin Sosa singled to left field.

Oakland threatened to extend its lead in the eighth inning with two runners on and one out, but Frazier Allard got the save on Grove’s double.
