Sept. 21 – Kotelmat hit a career-high 33rd home run and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. doubled to help the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks remain in the National League wild-card round with a 7–4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.

The Diamondbacks broke a 4-4 tie by scoring three runs in the sixth inning. Gurriel, who came off the injured list, led off the inning with his 18th home run. Eugenio Suarez and Gabriel Moreno had back-to-back singles. Jared Koenig struck out Geraldo Perdomo and then walked to load the bases. Corbin Carroll then hit an RBI grounder to make it 6-4.

Marte was intentionally walked to reload the bases, and pinch-hitter Randall Grichuk was walked to score.

Jake Gallen (13-6) hit three homers and gave up four runs in the fifth inning. He allowed seven hits, struck out five and allowed one base on base in five innings. Kevin Kinkel, Justin Martinez and Ryan Thompson each pitched one scoreless inning. AJ Puk got his third save in the ninth.

Arizona (86-68) entered the season two games behind the San Diego Padres for the NFC’s top wild-card spot. The Mets fell one game behind the Diamondbacks after losing 12-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Milwaukee (88-66), which has lost two consecutive games to Arizona since winning the NL Central series on Wednesday, erased a 4-0 deficit with three home runs in the fifth inning. Joey Ortiz started the offense with his 11th single. Jackson Chourio singled with two outs and William Contreras hit his 23rd home run. Garrett Mitchell tied the game with his eighth homer.

DL Hall (1-2) lost the game after giving up a home run by Gurriel in the sixth inning. Hall allowed four runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

Marte hit a home run to right base in the second inning to give the Diamondbacks a 1–0 lead.

The Diamondbacks scored in the second on Perdomo’s RBI single. Carroll scored on a single and sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3–0.

Brewers starter Colin Rea lasted only four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, four batters, and four strikeouts.
