September 30 – In the final game of the regular season on Sunday, the visiting Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 3–0 in 10 innings, with Eli De La Cruz hitting two triples and Jack Fraley going 3–4.

After nine scoreless innings, De La Cruz hit a two-run triple off Ethan Roberts (1-1). Tyler Stephenson then extended the Reds’ lead to 3-0 with a single to center field.

Tony Santillan (3-3) earned the win with a perfect ninth and Buck Farmer earned his first save of the season with a scoreless 10th. Cincinnati (77-85) ended its five-game losing streak this season.

Chicago (83-79) had its two-game winning streak snapped as the offense managed just three hits. In his first start of the year, Caleb Killian pitched five innings of a three-hit, scoreless innings. The 27-year-old right-hander had four strikeouts and two walk-offs.

Cincinnati came into danger in the fourth inning when Stephenson walked and TJ Friedel hit a run with one out. After two runners advanced on Killian’s wild pitch, Stephenson was thrown out at home by third baseman Isaac Paredes on Ty France’s grounder. After that, Killian saved the inning by allowing Fraley to fly out.

Seiya Suzuki started the fourth inning with a hit and then walked Michael Bush. Reds starter Hunter Greene retired Paredes and Pete Crow-Armstrong on a lineout and a flyout, respectively. Greene struck out Christian Besancourt in the final inning.

After four scoreless innings of one hit, Green was replaced by Fernando Cruz. In his third and final start of the season, Green struck out three and drove in three.

Chicago went 83–79 for the second year in a row and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The Reds also missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
