Sept. 18—Jesus Sanchez went 5-for-5 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs scored as the Miami Marlins defeated the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 11–9 on Tuesday night.

Shohei Ohtani hit his National League-leading 48th home run and went 1 for 5 with two RBIs for the Dodgers (89-62).

Ohtani finished second in the majors with 48 stolen bases, but his stolen base total did not increase. He is trying to become the first player to achieve 50 home runs and 50 interceptions in the same season in the major leagues.

Max Muncy went 3-for-5 with five RBIs for the Dodgers. He hit a two-run double in the ninth inning, but Marlins reliever Jesus Tinoco struck out Tommy Edman to end the game at 1–2.

Former Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas also homered for the Dodgers, his blast going off Sanchez’s glove in left field.

Jake Berg had a big game for Miami with four RBIs. He had a two RBI ground ball and a two-run home run.

The Marlins, who had lost six of their previous seven games and had the worst record in the National League at 56–95, also got three runs off Kyle Stowers’ RBI and doubles.

Miami opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Sanchez and Jonah Blades.

Miami extended its lead to 4–0 in the second quarter on Sanchez’s second RBI single of the night and Berg’s run-scoring grounder.

Los Angeles tied the score at 4–4 in the third inning. Hunter Feduccia had a single, then Ohtani beat a low-zone sweeper to right for a 402-foot home run.

Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernández had singles and Muncy had a two-run double and the game continued.

Miami took a 5-4 lead on Otto López’s solo homer in the bottom of the third inning, but Rojas tied the game on a ding-dong in the fourth.

The Marlins took a 7-5 lead late in the fourth quarter after Connor Norby’s double early in the game. Sanchez (two hits) and Stowers (three hits) added RBI hits, both of which drove down the right field line.

Los Angeles cut the deficit to 7–6 in the fifth inning when Mookie Betts tripled and scored on Freeman’s sacrifice fly.

Miami scored twice in the sixth quarter, with a run-scoring double by Stowers, to start the lead.
