Sept. 21 – Jonathan Aranda shut out Toronto starting pitcher José Berrios with a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Blue Jays on Friday night in St. Petersburg, Florida. José Berrios’ seventh consecutive win.

In the sixth inning, with Aranda trailing Berríos 1–2 (16–10), Aranda hit an 85 mph shot 411 feet for the only run of the game, his fourth home run of the season.

Six pitchers combined to allow five hits and the Rays (76-78) beat the Boston Red Sox 2-0 on Thursday to post their 12th shutout of the season and second shutout in two nights.

On May 17, after pitching a perfect game into the eighth inning of a win over Toronto, Tyler Alexander faced the Blue Jays again in his eighth start and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, walked one, struck out two batters and struck out six.

Kevin Kelly (4-2) pitched 1 2/3 innings behind Alexander and extended his scoreless streak to 22, and Hunter Biggers pitched a perfect ninth inning, the first save of his career.

The Blue Jays (73-81) have allowed five hits against the Rays this season, falling to 4-7.

Berrios gave up only one home run — his 30th — and had five other hits. He struck out six and struck out one.

It was the right-hander’s first loss since an 8–3 defeat to the New York Yankees on August 3.

Berríos started 4–0 in 2024, beating the Rays on Opening Day (March 28), but he pitched out of trouble in the second and third innings to keep the game at zero points.

Meanwhile, the left-handed Alexander faced his first real problem in the fifth round.

After beating leadoff batter Davis Schneider with a base hit and then hitting Leo Jiménez, Alexander struck out Luis De Los Santos and relieved Kelly, who got the first out on a Jonathan Klas grounder to foul ground by George Springer.

Toronto tied the game with two outs in the eighth, but reliever Colin Poche ended the threat by striking out Spencer Horwitz (the designated hitter’s fourth strikeout of the game).

Biggers struck out Schneider and pinch-hitter Addison Barger and then got the save on a game-ending grounder to Nathan Lux.
