Sept. 19 – Jordan Walker hit a game-breaking three-run double in the seventh inning and the Cardinals beat the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates 10–5 on Wednesday night.

Brendan Donovan hit a two-run homer and Masin Winn drove in a run for the Cardinals (77–75), who won the first three games of the four-game series.

St. Louis’ Nolan Arenado was 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.

Cardinals starter Sonny Gray allowed four runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight but did not reach base.

Michael McGreevey (2-0) worked the final three innings to get the win

Billy Cook hit a three-run homer for the Pirates (71–81), who lost for the fifth time in six games.

The Pirates promoted former Cardinals pitcher Jake Woodford from Triple-A Indianapolis as a starter. He allowed four runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings, while striking out five and walking none.

Reliever David Bednar (3-8) lost the game.

Home plate umpire DJ Rayburn ejected Cardinals manager Oliver Marmor and hitting manager Turner Ward for protesting a ball and hit in the fourth inning.

In the second inning, Arenado hit a single and Donovan hit a home run, giving St. Louis a 2–0 lead.

The Cardinals made it 4–0 in the third inning on Alec Burleson’s single, Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI triple and Arenado’s run-scoring single.

In the fourth inning, the Pirates relied on doubles from Andrew McCutchen and Nick Gonzalez, a sacrifice fly from Brian De La Cruz, and an RBI single from Nick York to cut the gap to 4–2.

Pittsburgh led 5-4 in the sixth inning. York and Jarred Triolo had singles, and Cook greeted reliever Matthew Liberatore with a three-run homer.

The Cardinals took a 10-5 lead in the seventh inning on home runs by Bednar and Jalen Bookers. Winn homered, then Goldschmidt committed an error and Arenado and Donovan walked.

Ivan Herrera and Lars Nootbaar had RBI singles, and Walker had a three-run double.
