September 11 – Freshman right-hander Kidder Montero hit a buzzer-beater and Parker Meadows drove in three runs to give the host Detroit Tigers a 9–0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.

Montero (5-6) limited the Rockies to three hits and did not walk a batter while recording five strikeouts. Riley Greene had a triple and Matt Werling and Andy Ibanez had two each for the Tigers (74-71).

Bradley Blalock (1-3) allowed five runs (4 ERA) on five hits in four innings for the Rockies (54-91). Blalock issued five walks and fanned four.

Meadows stunned his club with his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning. Detroit had two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning, but Blalock prevented further damage by striking out Ibanez.

Ryan McMahon’s leadoff single in the second inning was the Rockies’ only hit in the first six innings against Montero. McMahon was taken out for a tag team match.

The Tigers led 5-0 in the second half. Blaylock was in trouble after removing leadoff batter Jesse Jung. After shortstop Ezequiel Tovar made a mistake on a grounder intended for Jake Rogers, Meadows walked to load the bases.

Green hit a triple down the right field line, loading the bases, then Wehrling hit a single to score Green.

Detroit increased its lead in the sixth. Jung walked again and advanced to second on a passed ball, but Trey Sweeney’s single moved him to third.

Reliever Anthony Molina’s wild pitch threw out Rodgers and moved Sweeney to second. Meadows brought in Jung and Sweeney, singing a single up the middle.

The Tigers’ game wasn’t over yet. After Green walked, Worling gave up another RBI single. Kerry Carpenter made it 9-0 on a sacrifice fly. After Colt Keith’s double, Ibanez gave up a two-run single to Justin Lawrence to complete the scoring.

Tovar had Colorado’s other hit, a single in the seventh inning, but a double play ended the inning.
