September 22 – LaMonte Wade Jr. and Matt Chapman each hit solo home runs, and Mike Yastrzemski also hit a deep home run to give the San Francisco Giants a 9–0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Landon Ropp (1-1) earned his first career major league win after giving up three hits in five innings. He issued three walks and struck out three. The 26-year-old made his 22nd appearance (third start) for San Francisco this season.

Wade hit a home run in the first inning and combined with Chapman for a long single in the fourth inning. Chapman hit his 26th home run of the season in the sixth inning to celebrate his return from fatherhood after the birth of his daughter.

Yastrzemski hit a three-run homer and Curt Casali followed with a two-run single to end the sixth inning for the Giants (76-79), who have won their past five games.

Instead, the shaky Royals (82-73) were going in the opposite direction. Kansas City gave up five hits and went 0-9 with runners in scoring position to lose its sixth consecutive game. The Royals have also lost 15 of their last 22 games.

Wade started the scoring in the first inning when Kansas City starter Brady Singer (9-12) sent a first-pitch fastball over the wall to right field. Wade doubled the lead in the fourth inning and hit Singer again over the right wall to make it 0-1.

Wade has eight homers this season and three career homers against Singer.

Chapman then hit a Singer sinker over the midfield wall to tie the score at 2-2 and give San Francisco a 3-0 lead. Chapman didn’t end his game there, hitting a 1-2 pitch off Singer over the wall in the sixth inning for his fourth home run in his last eight games.

Casali allowed two runs to Carlos Hernandez to lift Singer, who gave up six runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Yastrzemski hit an 0–2 knuckleball from Hernández over the wall in right field for his 18th home run of the season.
