Sept. 13—Jonah Bride and Connor Norby each drove in two runs to help the visiting Miami Marlins overcome an early three-run deficit in a 6-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

In the first game of the four-game series, Jake Berger had three hits and Xavier Edwards had two hits in the eighth inning.

The Marlins (55-92) pitched four scoreless innings, retired three relievers and struck out six, taking advantage of three errors by the Nationals (65-81) to snap a three-game losing streak.

Miami has beaten Washington in two consecutive games, and Washington has won the first eight games in the series this season.

Washington’s Josh Turner belted a two-run double and Dylan Cruz highlighted his two-hit performance with a single in a three-run first inning. Cruz hit a superb slider into the center-right field gap to lead off the sixth for the Nationals, who have lost three of their last four games.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Edwards hit a pinch-hit double off Derek Law (7–4) and Brad hit a single to center field to tie the score at 3–3. Berger singled and loaded the bases, and Otto López hit a fielder’s choice, allowing both Norby and Blades to score on errors.

Norby’s sacrifice fly allowed Griffin Konaire to score in the ninth.

The final rebound gave up the game-winner to Anthony Bender (5-2), who struck out the only batter he faced to end the seventh inning. Jesus Tinoco retired batters in order in both the eighth and ninth innings and earned his first save of the season.

Law took the loss, allowing three runs (ERA) on three hits.

Washington got off to a fast start, hitting a leadoff double off C.J. Abrams in the first inning, stealing third and scoring on Cruz’s line drive infield single. James Wood walked Darren McCaughan and Tena doubled to left field.

Miami scored two points in the third quarter. Nick Fortes was hit by a Mitchell Parker pitch and advanced to third on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams. Fortes scored on a grounder and Javier Sanoja crossed home plate on Bride’s sacrifice fly.

Marlins starter McCown allowed three runs on six hits in five innings, while Nationals starter Parker allowed two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings.
