September 19 – Jake Bauers’s bases-loaded hit in the ninth inning gives Milwaukee a 2–1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the finale of Wednesday’s three-game series between the Brewers a game.

Rookie Jackson Chourio sent the second pitch of the ninth inning from Carlos Estevez (4-5) to the opposite right corner. William Contreras was intentionally walked and advanced to second because of the catcher’s indifference. Willy Adames loaded the bases with one out and a walk.

Bauer then threw the first pitch down the right field line, sealing a three-game series win for the Brewers.

The Milwaukee (88-64) Cubs won the National League Central championship by beating Oakland 5-3 at home in the afternoon. It is the Brewers’ second consecutive division title, third in the last four seasons and fourth in the last seven seasons.

Closer Devin Williams (1-0) missed the first 104 games with a back injury and was eliminated in the ninth round.

The loss kept the Phillies (91-61) out of a playoff spot. Philadelphia has the best record in baseball and leads the Mets by seven games in the NL East.

The Phillies are one game ahead of the Dodgers for the best record in the National League. Milwaukee is two games behind Los Angeles. The top two teams will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Phillies starter Aaron Nola allowed one run on three hits in seven innings – including Rhys Hoskins’s sixth-inning homer – with nine strikeouts and a four-base hit.

Brewers starter Freddy Peralta allowed one run on two hits over five innings – the second on Alec Boheim’s home run in the first – and struck out nine and walked two.

Hoskins, who played for the Phillies from 2017-22 and missed last season with a knee injury, hit his 25th homer in NOLA from 385 feet to tie the game 2-2 and put the Brewers up 2-1.

Boeheim hit his 14th homer in the second, a single to center, giving the Phillies a 1–0 lead.
