September 14 – The Detroit Tigers fall just one run short of a no-hitter total before defeating the Baltimore Orioles 1–0 on Friday night.

Gunner Henderson hit a triple off Tyler Holton to end the no-hitter. Kerry Carpenter’s first inning home run scored the only run of the game.

Beau Briscoe and Brant Huerter combined to pitch seven perfect innings before Huerter walked Adele Rutschman in the eighth to make it 3-2.

Brennan Hanifee replaced Huerter and dismissed pinch-hitter Austin Slater. Eloy Jimenez struck out on a forced out and Colton Cowser struck out on a foul call to preserve the no-hitter.

Holden retired Emmanuel Rivera on a fly ball in the ninth, then removed pinch-hitter Kobe Mayo with a strikeout. Henderson then hit Holden’s next pitch down the right field line for a triple. Holden responded by dismissing Anthony Sanchez for his eighth save of the game.

Briscoe opened the scoring for the Tigers (76-72) and left the game with six fouls after striking out the first four. Hurt (5-1) allowed just one run over the next 5 2/3 innings while striking out eight.

Jake Eflin (10-9) allowed one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings for the Orioles (83-65).

Carpenter hit his 15th home run of the season to right center in Game 1. He jumped on Eflin’s first curve ball.

Meanwhile, Tigers pitchers continued to strike out all the batters they faced. Huerter struck out the first two batters in the fifth before retiring Jiménez on a flyout.

Hart was even more unstoppable in the sixth round, continuing his impressive run by knocking out Cowser, Rivera, and Jackson Holliday.

Henderson and Santander were out before Hunter sent out Cedric Mullins to end the seventh round.

Eflin scored on a two-out single by Wensel Perez in the bottom of the seventh inning. Perez tried to steal second but was thrown out.

Detroit got into scoring position in the eighth inning with Parker Meadows’s two-out triple and Jack McKinstry’s walk. After McKinstry stole second, Orioles reliever Matt Bowman struck out Matt Vierling.
