September 12 – Trey Sweeney hit a three-run homer in six outs in the first inning and the host Detroit Tigers extended their winning streak to four with a 7–4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

Kerry Carpenter had four hits, scored a run and homered for the Tigers (75-71). Riley Greene had two hits, including a solo home run, and drove in two runs.

Tyler Holton (6-1) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Jason Foley got his 22nd save with the final three outs, including two strikeouts.

Ezequiel Tovar hit a two-run double and Ryan McMahon hit a home run for the Rockies (54-92). Starter Tanner Gordon (0-6) allowed seven runs, all on 10 hits, in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out one batter but couldn’t walk one.

Green gave Detroit the win with a home run in the first inning. He hit Gordon’s changeup over the right-center field wall for his 21st home run.

Matt Vierling singled and Carpenter tripled home down the right field line. Carpenter scored on Spencer Torkelson’s double. Jace Jung singled before Sweeney hit his fourth home run over the right field wall.

McMahon hit his 19th home run in the second period to give Colorado the lead.

Carpenter and Keith had back-to-back singles in the third inning, but Gordon struck out the next three batters to keep the score at 6–1.

Detroit catcher Jake Rogers scored on the next run with an aggressive base run. He began the fourth inning with a two-run single, advanced to third on Parker Meadows’s fly ball and scored on Green’s deep fly ball.

The Rockies cut the Tigers’ lead to 7-4 by scoring off Detroit starter Casey Mize in the fifth inning. Jake Cave and Nolan Jones singled before Mize struck out the next two batters. Tovar doubled to bring in two runners and ended Mize’s outing by scoring on Brenton Doyle’s single.

Mize allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking one. He had seven strikeouts.

Detroit can seal the three-game series with a win on Thursday afternoon.
