Sept. 12 – First the presentation, then the film. On Wednesday, Joe Burrow offered clarification and reassurance.

Addressing the hottest topic in Cincinnati sports circles during Wednesday’s press conference, the Bengals quarterback insisted his surgically repaired wrist has not affected his ability to throw despite his team’s shocking performance. There was a lot of speculation about that following the loss.

“It feels great, this week feels better than last week and even better than the week before, so it’s going to be even better,” Burrows said.

Burrow, playing for the first time since tearing ligaments in his right wrist against the Baltimore Ravens in November, threw just one pass, no touchdowns or interceptions, as the Bengals lost 16-10 to the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Cameras captured Burrow twisting and rubbing his wrist throughout the game, and footage of him picking up a water bottle on the sidelines led to a lot of speculation online about his injury.

“Was it strange that I picked it up?” he asked at a press conference. “I don’t know. I drank water. I can’t say if I saw it or what anyone was talking about.”

As far as rubbing and twisting his wrists?

“That’s part of ligament damage,” Burrow said. “If you don’t move it, you’ll lose it, so I always move it, keep it loose, keep it as fluid as it needs to be, so it keeps happening.”

Burrow was listed on the Bengals’ Week 2 injury report, though he practiced fully on Wednesday.

Cincinnati will face Super Bowl champion Kansas City on Sunday. The Chiefs opened the new season by beating the Ravens 27-20 at home.

Last season, Burrow completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 2,309 yards and 15 touchdowns, including six interceptions in 10 games. He had more than 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns in each of the past two seasons, his only full seasons as a fifth-year professional.
