Sept. 13—The NHL Alumni Association announced Thursday that former Washington Capitals forward Steven Peat has died from injuries suffered in a recent accident.

According to reports, Pitt, 44, was a pedestrian when he was hit by a car on August 30 in the city of Langley, British Columbia, about 30 miles southeast of Vancouver.

Langley police issued a news release saying a pedestrian was hit at 4:15 a.m. on Aug. 30, but did not reveal if the injured person was Pitt, the province said.

Pete’s longtime friend Howie Zaron told The Province that Pete was the one hit by the car.

Peat played 130 games over four NHL seasons with the Washington Capitals. He scored eight goals and two assists, with his primary role being as an enforcer (234 penalty minutes).

In December 2005, Pitt was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, but he never played for the team due to an injury. He retired in 2007.

After retiring from hockey, Pete struggled with concussions and drug addiction problems and was homeless for a long time in British Columbia.
