Askume Sep 17 – Three-time Grand Slam runner-up Ons Jabeur of Tunisia said a shoulder injury had forced her to end her 2024 season early.
The 30-year-old has slipped to 22nd in the world rankings this year due to fitness problems. After missing the Paris Olympics due to a knee problem, she also withdrew from Cincinnati, Washington and the US Open due to a shoulder problem.
“This year has been extremely tough for me and as athletes we know recovery is part of the journey,” Jaber said on social media.
“Due to my shoulder injury, I and my medical team have made the difficult decision to step away from tennis for the remainder of the season.”
The former world number two said she would devote her time to charity projects during her recovery and hoped to return to the Australian circuit early next year.
