Sept. 24 – Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced Monday that defensive back Marcus Davenport suffered an elbow injury during Sunday’s win over the Arizona Cardinals and could miss the remainder of season competition.

According to ESPN’s report, the nature of the injury is a triceps brachii tear. Campbell said the 28-year-old is considering other treatment options.

In March, the Lions signed Davenport via free agency, signing a one-year contract worth $7.095 million. He suffered a concussion in Week 1 against the Rams, then was sidelined in Week 2 with a groin injury.

This is Davenport’s seventh season in the league, having spent his first five years with the New Orleans Saints and last year with the Minnesota Vikings. His most productive season came in 2021, when he had nine sacks, 39 tackles, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 11 games.

Davenport has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. After being selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 draft, he played only 63 games over five seasons in New Orleans and just four games last season in Minnesota.

The injury was one of several that the Lions suffered during their run to the NFC Championship Game the previous season.

Campbell said Monday that linebacker Derrick Barnes will miss “a significant amount of time” because of a knee injury he suffered Sunday. Meanwhile, three-time Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow injured his pectoral muscle Sunday and was ruled week-to-week.

Sam LaPorta, who was a Pro Bowler as a rookie last year, is out with an ankle injury. The team said he is still day-to-day with a sprained ankle.

Safety Brian Branch, who broke out as a rookie last season, also remains out day to day with an injury. Campbell said Branch has gone through protocols but is “doing great.”
