September 14 – The Detroit Tigers fall just one run short of a no-hitter total before defeating the Baltimore Orioles 1–0 on Friday night.

Gunner Henderson hit a triple off Tyler Holton to end the no-hitter. Kerry Carpenter’s first inning home run scored the only run of the game.

Beau Briscoe and Brant Huerter combined to pitch seven perfect innings before Huerter walked Adele Rutschman in the eighth to make it 3-2.

Holden retired Emmanuel Rivera on a fly ball in the ninth, then removed pinch-hitter Kobe Mayo with a strikeout. Henderson then hit Holden’s next pitch down the right field line for a triple. Holden responded by dismissing Anthony Sanchez for the save in the eighth.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 4

Aaron Judge ends a career-high 16-game home run drought with a highlight-reel grand slam in the seventh inning as host New York routs Boston.

Judge hit a 2-0 fastball from Cam Boozer (2-3) into the left-field seats for his 52nd MLB home run. It was Judge’s first home run since Aug. 25 when he hit two home runs. He leads the majors with 130 RBIs.

Judge’s eighth career grand slam gave the Yankees (86-62) a three-game lead over Baltimore for top spot in the American League East, but the Orioles lost 1-0 to the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Mets 11, Philadelphia 3

José Quintana (9-9) pitched an impressive seven innings for Philadelphia, while New York’s Francisco Álvarez, Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso each hit three-run home runs.

The left-hander allowed just three hits, no walks, and struck out four to improve to 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA in his last four starts. Francisco Lindor had an RBI double before leaving for the Mets because of lower back pain, who trail first-place Philadelphia by seven games in the National League East.

Aaron Nola (12-8) allowed six runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Phillies.

Ray 3, Patron 1

Zack Littell allowed only two hits in six scoreless innings, Logan Driscoll hit the first home run of his career, and Jonathan Allen Jonathan Aranda also pitched well as Tampa Bay defeated Cleveland.

Lytle (7-9) struck out five without a walk and extended his scoreless streak to 13.

Tanner Beebe (11-8) gave up all three runs on two homers for Tampa Bay, finishing with nine strikeouts and eight hits with no walks in six innings. David Frye scored the only two runs for the Guardians in the eighth inning.

Royals 8, Pirates 3

Alex Marsh pitched 5 1/3 quality innings to help Kansas City beat Pittsburgh.

Marsh (8-8) allowed one run on five hits, struck out 11 and walked two. Salvador Perez and Kyle Isbell each had a home run and two hits, and both drove in two runs. Tommy Pham also scored twice for the Royals’ sixth win in eight tries.

For Pittsburgh, Bryan Reynolds and O’Neil Cruz each had two hits and drove in a run, ending the Pirates’ four-game winning streak. Joey Bart went 1 for 3 and scored a run.

Blue Jays 4, Cardinals 3 (11 innings)

Alejandro Kirk hit an RBI single in the 11th inning to help Toronto defeat St. Louis.

Erik Swanson (2-2) got the win for Toronto in the 11th inning. Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman allowed two runs, nine hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out three.

Thomas Sagse hit his first major league home run, a solo shot, and had two RBIs for the Cardinals. Right-hander Eric Fede went five innings, giving up three runs on six hits, allowing one base and striking out three.

Brewers 2, Diamondbacks 1

Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer and five Milwaukee pitchers shut down Arizona’s offense to win in Phoenix.

Freddy Peralta continued his form, pitching five innings against the Diamondbacks and improving to 4-0 in five career appearances (three starts). Joey Ortiz had two hits for the Brewers, who have won three of their last four games.

The Diamondbacks fell behind San Diego by a half-game in the race for the National League’s top wild-card spot after the Padres beat the San Francisco Giants 5-0. Peralta (11-8) allowed one run on six hits and struck out five and struck out four.

Athletics 2, White Sox 0

Brady Basso recorded his first career win in the sixth inning and Oakland opened a three-game series with Chicago with a shutout win.

Chicago lost its 16th consecutive home game and a franchise-record 18th time in its last 20 games. The White Sox must finish 10-4 or better to avoid tying the 1962 New York Mets for the most single-season losses (120) in modern baseball history. Chicago was limited to six single-season games and was shut out for the 18th time.

Lawrence Butler singled in the fifth inning and raised his career-best hit count to 21 for Oakland, which has won three of its last four games. Basso (1-0) allowed five hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings, walked one and struck out two.

Astros 5, Angels 3

Alex Bregman hit a two-run home run and Yusei Kikuchi pitched seven solid innings to lead Houston to a win over Los Angeles in Anaheim, California.

Yordan Alvarez had two RBIs and a homer in the ninth inning for the Astros, who improved to 5–6 on the month. Josh Hader recorded his 30th save of the year and gave Houston its 5,000th win in franchise history.

Angels starter Samuel Aldegary (1-2) allowed four runs and five walks in two innings. Nolan Sanur had two hits and an RBI.

Rockies 9, Cubs 5

Debutant Hunter Goodman hit two homers, including a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning, and drove in a career-high seven runs as Colorado beat Chicago in Denver.

It was Goodman’s second two-homer game of the season, and he helped lead Colorado to their second consecutive win with three hits. Ezequiel Tovar also had two hits, and Ryan McMahon and Michael Toglia had one hit each.

Michael Bush homered and had three hits, Isaac Paredes also had three hits, and Cody Bellinger and Dansby Swanson had two hits each for the Cubs. Chicago has lost two games in a row.

Sailor 5, Wanderer 4

Julio Rodriguez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning and the return of Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom lifted Seattle to a trip to Texas.

Rodriguez went 4-for-5, blasting a 1-1 knuckleball off David Robertson (3-4) to complete the Mariners’ comeback after falling behind by four runs. deGrom made his first major league appearance since April 28, 2023, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings. He threw 61 pitches, allowed four hits, walked no batters and struck out four.

Wyatt Langford hit his 11th homer for the Rangers, giving the team its third loss in four games.

Padres 5, Giants 0

Fernando Tatis Jr. homered for the third consecutive game, Dylan Cease struck out six in six scoreless innings, and San Diego moved past Arizona in the National League wild-card standings with a scoreless win over San Francisco.

In the first game of a three-game series, San Diego wasted no time attacking Giants starter Logan Webb (12-10). Luis Arraez singled on the All-Star’s second pitch, and two pitches later, Tatis hit his 17th home run over the center field fence. Osian (13-11) allowed only four hits and two walks in his 97 plate appearances.

Weber was taken out after four innings with the Giants, allowing four runs on seven hits (3.0 ERA). He walked one and struck out four.

Nationals 4, Marlins 1

Luis Garcia Jr. homered and Dylan Cruz stole two bases and drove in a run as host Washington evened the series with the Miami Marlins at four games apiece.

Rookie left-hander DJ Hurts (4-7) allowed one run on four hits, one walk and five walks in five innings to earn the win. Kyle Finnegan pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 37th save. The Nationals finished with five stolen bases in the game and improved to 17-0 this season when they stole at least four bases.

Otto Lopez homered and Xavier Edwards and Javier Sanoa had two hits each for the Marlins, who lost for the fourth time in their last five games. Edward Cabrera (4-7) allowed two unearned runs on only one hit in six innings. He gave up a four-base hit and struck out nine, but also committed two of the Marlins’ three errors.

Warriors 6, Dodgers 2

Gio Urcera and Jorge Soler each hit two-run homers in the second inning to help Atlanta beat Los Angeles.

Marcell Ozuna had three hits for his 1,500th career home run, and Soler and Whit Merrifield had two hits each for the Braves, The Braves remained one game behind the Mets for the final wild-card spot in the National League. Rookie Spencer Schwellenbach (6-7) got the win, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings.

Miguel Rojas got a single in the third inning and Tommy Edelman had an RBI single in the fourth inning to help the Dodgers lose three of their last four games. Starter Landon (2-4) lost the game after allowing five runs on seven hits in two innings.

Reds 8, Twins 4

Eli De La Cruz hit the first grand slam of his career to lead Cincinnati past host Minnesota.

De La Cruz accomplished the feat after helping the team win the first game of a three-game series by striking out six Reds in the seventh inning. T.J. Friedel went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and right-hander Julian Aguirre (2-0) got the win after allowing three hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Byron Buxton hit a solo home run for the Twins in his return from injury. Right-hander Bailey Ober (12-7) lost the game after allowing five runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
