September 16 – Eugenio Suarez led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 11-10 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in 10 innings in the final game of a three-game series in Phoenix. For the Milwaukee Brewers, Eugenio Suarez became the hero in the end zone with a bases-loaded hit over the right field wall.

Milwaukee took the lead in the top of the 10th on Jackson Chourio’s two-run triple, then Arizona got three runs in the bottom of the inning off Jared Koenig. Koenig opened the game with a single on Adrian del Castillo’s RBI and then Christian Walker tied it at 10 on a pitch. Suarez then delivered the decisive blow.

Jolio also hit a home run for Milwaukee, going 3-6 with a career-high five RBI. Eric Haase hit a two-run homer for the Brewers, who scored eight runs while trailing 5-0.

Suarez had three RBIs. Pavon Smith had a three-run double for the Diamondbacks.

Tigers 4, Orioles 2

Riley Greene hit two home runs and drove in three runs to help host Detroit defeat Baltimore.

Detroit starter Keyder Montero (6-6) allowed five hits in five scoreless innings against Colorado State. Jason Foley recorded his 23rd save. Colt Keith had an RBI for the Tigers, who have won six of their last eight games.

Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer for the Orioles. Starter Cade Povich (2-9) allowed two runs and two hits in five innings. He walked twice and struck out eight.

Padres 4, Giants 3 (10 innings)

David Peralta singled and drove in two runs in the 10th inning to win the game, and San Diego relied on the strength of its pitching to defeat host San Francisco in three games.

The Padres (85-65) remain atop the National League wild-card race with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. After the Giants (72-78) tied the game with his first home run in the ninth inning off Heliot Ramos, Peralta gave up a run in the 10th to automatic baserunner Jake Cronenworth off former San Francisco closer Camilo Doval (5-3) and then scored on Donovan Solano’s RBI grounder.

Adrian Morejon retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the tenth, giving up a fly to Michael Conforto for his second save. Despite missing the save, the win came thanks to Roberto Suarez (9-3), who hit his 21st home run off Ramos.

Yankees 5, Red Sox 2

Aaron Judge hit his 53rd MLB home run to help host New York defeat Boston in the final game of a four-game series.

Judge’s two-point blast came in the third and third for New York (87-63), which has won the series three games to none. Gleyber Torres opened the game with a single, then Juan Soto’s single blasted Judge over the center field wall (445 feet) to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.

Curt Crawford (8-15) started for Boston and allowed four runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Connor Wong had a double-double on 3-for-4 shooting as Boston lost for the fourth time in six games.

Phillies 2, Mets 1

JT Realmuto’s two-out single in the ninth inning gave host Philadelphia a low-scoring win over New York.

Realmuto’s heroics ended an interesting pitching duel between Christopher Sanchez and David Peterson. Sanchez allowed only one homer, to Tyrone Taylor in the eighth inning, while Peterson held on until Buddy Kennedy’s RBI double in the bottom of the eighth.

Philadelphia (90-59) is 31 games over .500, a season-high of 31 games, and is nine games ahead of New York (81-68) in the National League East. The Phillies have won two of three games in the series and 11 of their last 14 games.

Bluebird 3, Cardinal 2

Nathan Lukes had an RBI double in the eighth inning and Toronto swept visiting St. Louis in three games.

Davis Schneider hit a two-run homer, one of his two hits for the Blue Jays (72-78). Lars Nootbaar tied the game with a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Cardinals (74-75).

Toronto right-hander Yariel Rodriguez allowed one run, three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas allowed two runs on three hits in five innings and struck out four. Neither starter was involved in the decision.

Guardians 2, smashed to the ground 0

Ben Lively pitched five strong innings, four relievers allowed no runners to walk, and host Cleveland beat the Tampa Bay Rays to tie the game at four games apiece.

Lively (12-9) showed no ill effects from a thigh liner he suffered earlier in the week against the Chicago White Sox, allowing four hits (all singles) and four walks on balls. Jose Ramirez had two hits and Brayan Rocchio had an RBI single to lift the American League Central-leading Guardians (86-64).

Lowe had two hits for the Rays (73-77), who allowed one run in the final two games after allowing a total of eight runs in the first two games of the series.

Pirates 4, Royals 3

Isiah Kiner-Falefa scored two runs and had an RBI. He went 3–5, helping Pittsburgh defeat Kansas City.

Pirates starter Jared Jones went four innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out five and giving up three or four bad balls. The Pittsburgh bullpen allowed only two hits in five scoreless innings as the Pirates (71-78) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Brady Singer (9-11) pitched five innings, allowing four runs, six hits, six strikeouts and four walks for Kansas City. Michael Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run and Michael Massie had two hits to end the Royals’ two-game winning streak (82-68).

Nationals 4, Marlins 3

Debutant James Wood hit two home runs to give host Washington its third straight win over Miami.

It was Wood’s first career multi-home run game, and Washington went on to win the series in four games. The Nationals also beat Miami, 11–2.

Jonah Blades homered and had two hits and two runs for Miami, which lost for the sixth time in its last seven games. Adam Oller (1-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out two.

White Sox 4, Athletics 3

Gavin Sheets and Brian Ramos each hit a homer, and Sean Burke pitched five innings to earn his first major league win, giving Chicago its first series victory since beating Oakland the final weekend in June.

The White Sox have won consecutive games for the first time since winning three games from June 27–29.

Pinch hitter Shea Langeliers hit a solo home run with two outs, then Fraser Allard hit a fly ball to Nick Ay, retiring Nick Allen for the first save of his career. Brent Rucker also homered for the Athletics, who lost for the third time in their last four games.

Cubs 6, Rockies 2

Michael Bush hit the first home run of his career and teammate Pete Crow-Armstrong had a big game as Chicago beat Colorado in Denver.

Bush had three hits and drove in three runs. Nico Horner and Ian Happ had two hits each for the Cubs.

Jacob Stallings homered for the Rockies, but they managed only four hits on the day. Colorado’s three-game winning streak was snapped.

Sailor 7, Ranger 0

George Kirby allowed only one hit in seven scoreless innings as Seattle defeated visiting Texas.

Mitch Garver and Randy Arozarena scored for the Mariners, who won their third consecutive game — both wearing City Connect uniforms. The M’s are 15-1 on the season when wearing the Rush blue jerseys and black pants.

Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney (5-14) allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings with four walks and a strikeout. Texas lost for the fifth time in its last six games.

Astros 6, Angels 4

Jason Heyward had a home run and two RBIs. He went 3-for-3 in the field to help Houston beat Los Angeles in Anaheim, California.

Houston starting pitcher Ronel Blanco (11-6) held Los Angeles to four hits and struck out five in six innings. The Astros have won four in a row, while the Angels have lost five in a row.

Los Angeles trailed 6–0 in the eighth inning before Taylor Ward hit a home run in the bottom of the plate off Caleb Ort, his 24th of the season, after Caleb Ort hit a single to right fielder from far.

Twins 9 games, Reds 2 games

Rookie Brooks Lee had three runs and a career-high five runs scored to go 2-4 as Minnesota beat Cincinnati.

Carlos Santana went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer to drive in three runs for Minnesota (79-70) and avoid a three-game sweep. Ryan Jeffers went 2 of 4 with two runs and an RBI.

Spencer Steele had three RBIs for Cincinnati (73-78). Ty France hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run for the Reds.

Dodgers 9, Warriors 2

Mookie Betts led off the scoring with a run and drove in seven in the ninth, including three straight home runs, as Los Angeles defeated host Atlanta.

Atlanta (81-68) is tied with the New York Mets for the National League’s final wild-card spot. Los Angeles (88-61) improved to 4-2 against the Warriors this season.

The rebellion began in the ninth inning against Atlanta closer Razor Iglesias (5-2), who had never had an ERA above 80 in 30 previous games.
