Sept. 23 – Jared Goff threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns and the Detroit Lions beat the Arizona Cardinals 20-13 on Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.

Goff completed 18 of 23 passes and had an interception. David Montgomery rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for the Lions (2-1).

Jahmir Gibbs rushed for 83 yards and scored a 21-yard touchdown on a hook-and-ladder move. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Kyler Murray passed for 207 yards and had a touchdown and an interception for Arizona (1-2). Marvin Harrison Jr. caught five passes for 64 yards and a score.

Goff completed all 12 of his passes in the first half and the Lions led 20–10 at half time.

Montgomery ran for 39 yards on the Lions’ first possession and finished with a 1-yard run.

Arizona responded with a 70-yard drive, with Murray passing for 38 yards and rushing for another 34. Murray received a 10-yard pass from Harrison to complete the breakthrough.

Detroit regained the lead on 13th down on a 5-yard pass from Goff to St. Brown. Jake Bates missed the extra point attempt.

The Lions scored again with 29 seconds left in the half. Goff threw a short pass to St. Brown, who then threw a lateral pass to Gibbs. The speedy running back ran for a 21-yard touchdown.

A personal foul penalty put the Cardinals within field goal range, which was capped by Matt Prater’s 42-yard field goal at halftime.

Early in the second half, Murray’s pass was caught by Kobe Joseph in the end zone. Arizona also failed to gain a first down after Goff’s pass was intercepted by Dennis Gardeck.

The Cardinals scored their first points of the first half on Platt’s 45-yard field goal with 3:48 remaining. Murray’s 28-yard pass to Michael Wilson was the highlight of the offense.

The Lions completed a crucial 3rd and 12 on Goff’s 18-yard pass to St. Brown. Goff’s 8-yard run led to another first down and ended the game.
