Oct. 11—Linus Ullmark made 30 saves in his Ottawa debut, Tim Stutzle scored twice, and the Senators lost Thursday night, beating the Florida Panthers 3–1.

Sean Pinto also scored for the Senators. Ullmark, acquired in a trade with the Boston Bruins in June, made 16 saves in the third period.

Travis Green has been winless in his Senators coaching debut.

Gustav Forsling scored for the Panthers, who began a four-game road trip. Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Florida outplayed Ottawa in the second half of the third period, with Ullmark making a couple of saves around the 13th minute. A few minutes later, Florida’s Aaron Ekblad was called for a penalty kick, breaking the momentum.

The Panthers converted the penalty kick and Bobrovsky was fouled on an additional slider with about 1:30 left in the game. However, Stutzler crossed the puck to Aleksander Barkov near the Panthers’ net and put it into the empty net at 18:50 to make the final score 3-1. Both players fell and slid into the boards, with Barkov needing help getting off the ice.

Stutzler gave the Senators a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 5:52 of the first quarter. He took a pass from Josh Norris, drove into space and fired a wrist shot through traffic past Bobrovsky.

At 10:42 of the game, Pinto found a loose puck in the defensive zone and got into a 2-on-1 with the Panthers’ David Perron, he took control of the puck and scored with a shot from the right circle.

Ottawa outshot Florida 17-8 in the first 20 minutes.

The Panthers’ power play ended at 7:35 of the second period when Ullmark made a strong save on Nate Schmidt’s wrist shot with his pad.

Forsling helped the Panthers go up 2-1 with 15 minutes and 48 seconds left. The Panthers moved the puck behind the Senators net and Sam Bennett passed the puck to Forsling, who beat Ullmark’s glove and scored from the point.
